Card College is an extremely detailed book It's for the beginner that has absolutely no base in handling cards, however it's a great refference even for those that have read the classic Royal Road To Card Magic, which for the longest time was considered the only book beginners should start with. Because of Card College's attention to detail, it takes the second volume as well to get a good base in card magic. That is why some people chose to go with Royal Road To Card Magic instead of CC 1 and 2. I say read both!
Royal Road has some really really great tricks whereas Card College has much more detail and insight to all of the moves. Furthermore, Card College volume 1 alone has stuff not found in Royal Road such as transfer cuts, spread cull techniques, forces (Balducci force, Goldin force), etc. It also talks about the psychology behind a lot of the sleights and tricks, more so than RRTCM.
I said that the tricks in CC aren't as strong as those in RRTCM, but that doesn't mean that they're not good. In fact, there are several tricks that really stand out from the others that are probably better that 95% of Royal Road. Some tricks are even taken straight out of that book such as Thought Steeler, which has some improvements over the original. Most of the tricks though are made for you to put the sleight just learned into practice.
If you're a seasoned card magician, I'd still recommend getting this book as it can be a great refference. Who knows? You might even find something you didn't know such as a subtlety on a sleight or shuffle you never thought about.
