This gives a lot of bang for the buck. It intrigues kids 9 to 90 and even younger kids can understand. I performed this in close proximity of a much more expensive trick and this one got a larger reaction. For older kids and adults, I recommend adding a third piece as a foil and a story line. I purchased a cheap color lit time machine mirror and i tell the story of how the black chips are frozen stakes that when put on the burner (the flashing inexpensive light mechanism) it is cooking. I even employ volunteers to add salt and pepper and another to simulate stirring the air. when i turn over chips the new color means they are all cooked. My foil makes them track their mind for how the cheap foil caused the change. If you only use the chips, older children and adults are too free to do the math, so add your extra foil to turn your magic into calculus.
